Frequently Asked Questions

Where are the meetings held?

The book discussions are currently being held at the Inverness Public Library

Do I need to join to attend?

Nope. All are welcome to attend any discussion.

Will I get called on?

Nope. We are all allowed to share to the extent in which we are comfortable. Participation is encouraged, but no one will be called upon.

What if I haven’t read the book yet?

That’s ok! Come and join the discussion anyway and try to catch up for the next one.

What is the format?

We start with a brief overview of guidelines for the discussion. We then introduce ourselves with our first name and town we live in. The the organizer will then read each question and we will discuss each until all who wanted to participate have shared until time runs out.

Will we get the questions beforehand?

Yep! You can either visit the “Discussions Questions” page on the website, or sign up for the newsletter at the bottom of this page and you will receive the discussion questions one week before the meeting.

Do I need to attend all discussions?

It is beneficial but not necessary to attend discussions. We understand how busy our lives are at times and encourage people to just show up when they are able.

Who picks the book selections?

The organizers finalize each book selection and encourage and welcome suggestions! You can email talkingracewestmarin@gmail.com

Where can I get the book selection?

We encourage support of our local bookstore - Point Reyes Books! Mention Talking About Race Book Club in store and receive 15% off your book selection. The Inverness and Point Reyes Public Libraries are also carrying extra copies of our book selections.
